WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 26, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) today joined a bipartisan group of Members of Congress in calling for the immediate reauthorization of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), which is set to expire in less than 100 days at the end of September. Ayotte has been a strong supporter of LWCF and is cosponsoring bipartisan legislation that would permanently reauthorize the program.

“Reauthorizing the Land and Water Conservation Fund is truly a bipartisan issue. In New Hampshire, this fund has preserved thousands of beautiful acres — including the White Mountain National Forest and Mine Falls Park in my hometown of Nashua,” said Senator Ayotte. “I’m the mother of a 10-year-old and a 7-year-old, and LWCF is really about preserving outdoor spaces for future generations. I’m going to work as hard as I can with my colleagues to renew this program and to make sure that we preserve the beauty of this great country.”

Rather than using taxpayer money, LWCF is an account in the U.S. Treasury that collects a small percentage of offshore oil and gas leasing receipts, specifically intended to be used for conservation projects. At the local, state, and federal levels, LWCF provides grants to help conserve our natural resources and protect outdoor recreation opportunities, working forests, and wildlife areas.
