Bicameral legislation uses public-private partnership model to create American Infrastructure Fund
MANCHESTER, N.H. - January 22, 2014 - (RealEstateRama) -- Continuing her efforts to help advance infrastructure projects in New Hampshire and across the nation, U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) announced today that she is backing the Partnership to Build America Act (S. 1957) - bipartisan legislation that aims to help state and local governments finance initiatives to build or repair roads, bridges, highways, ports, schools, and other infrastructure projects.

As the cold winter months get underway in New Hampshire and across the country, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) today derided cuts to the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) that have resulted from across-the-board budget cuts known as sequestration. During a visit to Southwestern Community Services (SCS) in Keene, Kuster underscored the harmful impacts of cutting LIHEAP for New Hampshire families and called on Congress to replace the sequester with a more responsible budget that restores vital funding for heating assistance.

New Hampshire lawmakers are calling on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to connect additional households in Atkinson showing chemical contamination in their water supply to a new water main to help ensure reliable access to safe drinking water. In a letter sent today to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) and Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) are requesting homes in the town of Atkinson that are showing any level of 1,4 Dioxane contamination be provided access to a new water main.

New Hampshire Housing’s Board of Directors recently approved a $500,000 loan for Concord Housing + Redevelopment to renovate space in the John F. Kennedy public housing complex into additional apartments. The funding comes from New Hampshire Housing’s Special Needs program, which is designed to provide financing for projects serving populations that need more supportive services than are typically provided in traditional rental housing.

SHAHEEN HIGHLIGHTS ENERGY EFFICIENCY BILL AT NASHUA HOUSING DEVELOPMENT
This afternoon U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) promoted the benefits of her bipartisan energy efficiency legislation at the Rosewood at Gagnon Farms Housing Development in Nashua, a development that incorporated numerous energy efficient products and production processes throughout its construction. During her visit, Shaheen highlighted how her legislation would promote similar efforts on the national level and also has the potential to create 136,000 jobs by 2025. The bipartisan Energy Savings and Industrial Competiveness Act was introduced with Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) and is currently being debated on the Senate floor; the Senate is expected to resume consideration of the bill on Monday.
NEW HAMPSHIRE HOUSING APPROVES OVER $1 MILLION FOR NOTRE DAME SENIOR HOUSING
New Hampshire Housing’s Board of Directors recently approved over $1 million in funding for the development of Senior Living at Notre Dame in Berlin. The funding will be used by Affordable Housing, Education, and Development (AHEAD), which is based in Littleton, to renovate the historic Notre Dame high school into over 30 units of affordable housing for seniors.
Delegation Welcomes Federal Disaster Recovery Assistance Grant
U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), and Representatives Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH) and Ann Kuster (D-NH), today welcomed the U.S. Department of Transportation's decision to approve an emergency recovery grant to help restore roadways in Grafton, Sullivan, and Cheshire Counties that were damaged by heavy rains and flooding at the end of June. The $1 million grant for rebuilding federally-supported roadways will assist the New Hampshire Department of Transportation's efforts to repair transportation infrastructure in Lebanon, Alstead, and Westmoreland that was damaged during powerful storms on June 26.

Today, Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) announced that Harbor Homes will receive a $1 million grant to help keep hundreds of local veterans in their homes and off the streets. The funding, administered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), is part of the agency’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families program (SSVF), which helps local non-profit organizations to prevent at-risk veterans from becoming homeless and to secure housing for those who have recently lost their homes.
SHAHEEN: $168,500 FOR MANCHESTER HOUSING AUTHORITY GRANT A STEP FORWARD FOR HOMELESS VETS
A $168,500 grant for the Manchester Housing & Redevelopment Authority will provide permanent housing to 20 homeless veterans and is a positive step forward to battling veterans homelessness in the state, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) said today. The supportive housing assistance is provided through the HUD (U.S. Housing and Urban Development)-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program, which combines rental assistance from HUD with case management and clinical services provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
