BEDFORD, N.H. – September 18, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — A new video that shows homebuyers how they can save up to $2,000 a year on their federal taxes has been released by New Hampshire Housing. The agency recently created a brief educational video to explain the benefits of the Homebuyer Tax Credit, which was launched this year.

The Homebuyer Tax Credit, which is targeted to first-time homebuyers and others who are purchasing homes in specific areas, converts a portion of paid mortgage interest into a federal tax credit of up to $2,000 per year. Unlike previous single-year federal tax credits for homebuyers, the Homebuyer Tax Credit can be used year after year, as long as the recipient is living in their home and paying mortgage interest.
“The Homebuyer Tax Credit offers a great long-term benefit to eligible homebuyers, especially when it is combined with other programs such as our cash assistance for downpayment costs,” said Ignatius MacLellan, Managing Director, Homeownership Division at New Hampshire Housing. “We want to educate homebuyers as much as possible about this opportunity to save up to $2,000 per year, and we thought a video would be a simple, visual way to highlight the program’s benefits.”
New Hampshire Housing also created a free, interactive, 20-minute online class about the Homebuyer Tax Credit so people who are interested can learn how to use the credit to its full advantage.
Anyone interested in the Homebuyer Tax Credit is encouraged to watch the video and take the online class at www.GoNewHampshireHousing.com. More information about the Homebuyer Tax Credit, including eligibility requirements, can also be found on the website.
