AHEAD renovated and restored three historic properties simultaneously —Lisbon Inn in Lisbon, Opera Block in Woodsville, and McKee Inn in Lancaster. The extensive renovations included improvements to the buildings’ energy efficiency, which improved residents’ overall quality of life. The list of updates among the three properties included new windows, removal of underground storage tanks, new appliances, and upgrades to major building systems. Residents were relocated within the buildings during renovations so they did not have to move far from home.

“AHEAD is extremely honored to be recognized as the recipient of this year’s Bringing You Home Award,” said Michael Claflin, Executive Director of AHEAD. “The project’s success is a result of exemplary efforts by our staff team, our general contractor HP Cummings, our friends at New Hampshire Housing, our investor partners, and most importantly, our gracious residents who were temporarily displaced during construction.”

Bringing You Home award nominees are judged on a variety of criteria, including response to an important state housing need, commitment to the long-term resiliency and diversity of communities, promotion of energy innovation, and promotion of effective partnerships. Winners receive a cash prize.

“AHEAD showed dedication and creativity while taking on a project that not only helped the residents of these buildings, but also helped the communities in which they are located,” said Dean Christon, Executive Director of New Hampshire Housing. “McKee Inn, Lisbon Inn, and Opera Block are all historic buildings in downtown locations, and AHEAD’s work helps preserve these towns’ characters while maintaining a vital resource.”
